My four month adventure throughout Asia starts in 29 days. This is ridiculously exciting for the sad, travel-addicted human being who watched the day counter app on her phone go from 360 to 29.
While I've been banging on about it, I've picked up that there has to be a slight sense of a purpose to these sorts of trips. This weirdly positive concept that extended backpacking adventures are supposed to be this 'find yourself' scenario where you can discover what your main purpose is in life after an extended adventure/volunteering spell in another country.
Which, for anyone that knows me, is a completely ridiculous concept to have for someone who only really communicates well in sarcasm.
So I thought I would just make it perfectly clear that I don't have any plans of grandiose 'my life's true purpose' realisations while I'm travelling.
I don't plan to be sitting on a beach one day, looking out on the waves, and suddenly have a 'OH MY GOD I SHOULD BECOME A [insert respectable career choice here]' moment.
In fact, I'm sure I'll be sitting there probably thinking about how not getting a full-time a career and instead investing myself in more dim sum eating time is a great idea.
So really, on this adventure of sorts, I plan instead on learning a lot about people, improving my terrible Mandarin and my shaky Japanese, actually making some friends who aren't from Australia, learning more about my writing while volunteering and blogging, eating, more eating and just enjoying being me and having mostly a fun time somewhere else.
There's no rush for me go and find a full-time career and set myself up back home.
Right now, I want to invest my time travelling and discovering more of the things I like to do besides being cynical and reading too much news.
Although when I get home and see all my fellow classmates graduating with wonderful jobs and moving into units in the inner city with a pot plant... I might change my mind.
But for now, there are my aims of this trip. If I learn something about my life's true purpose, wonderful.
But for now if I could do any or all of those things above, that would be pretty swell.
Anyway so this is the beginning of a few adventures: Extended travel, actually upkeeping a website. So let's see how it all goes. Hopefully you'll enjoy following along with me.
